I love all things Halloween and pumpkins (as long as it's not creepy)。 This was a fun fact book about a fun subject and my kids and I had fun reading it。 I love all things Halloween and pumpkins (as long as it's not creepy)。 This was a fun fact book about a fun subject and my kids and I had fun reading it。 。。。more

I've never really read one of these before, but I can definitely understand why kids love them。 Some of my favorite facts from this book: The most popular pet costume is a pumpkin, a bee sting is more venomous than a tarantula bite, and the fire department of Sleepy Hollow, NY has the headless horseman on the doors of their fire trucks。 I've never really read one of these before, but I can definitely understand why kids love them。 Some of my favorite facts from this book: The most popular pet costume is a pumpkin, a bee sting is more venomous than a tarantula bite, and the fire department of Sleepy Hollow, NY has the headless horseman on the doors of their fire trucks。 。。。more

These WEIRD BUT TRUE! books are always a popular choice among kids because they can get all kinds of fun facts in a short period of time。 The books are small and include large, easy-to-read print and fun photos and graphics to keep kids entertained。This time there is an entire book full of facts all about Halloween。 I had no idea there was so much to learn about Halloween or other spooky facts。"The Queen’s bedroom at the White House included Andrew Jackson’s bed and is said to be one of the most These WEIRD BUT TRUE! books are always a popular choice among kids because they can get all kinds of fun facts in a short period of time。 The books are small and include large, easy-to-read print and fun photos and graphics to keep kids entertained。This time there is an entire book full of facts all about Halloween。 I had no idea there was so much to learn about Halloween or other spooky facts。"The Queen’s bedroom at the White House included Andrew Jackson’s bed and is said to be one of the most haunted spots in the White House。""Get your candy corn ready to celebrate National Candy Corn day on October 30。"The book doesn’t just talk about Halloween celebrations in the US, but also across the world。 Parades in Japan, pumpkins in Sardinia, folklore in the Balkans, and superstitions in Scotland are just part of the Halloween fun in other countries。 If you are planning to celebrate in your community, make sure your child’s costume isn’t banned like some have banned clown costumes。 If you are in Hollywood, CA, don’t use silly string anywhere or you could find yourself in trouble! If you are looking for costume inspiration, check out what the astronauts on the ISS dressed as for Halloween one year: Elvis, Darth Vader, and a Mad Scientist。Unfortunately, some communities will not be having any Halloween celebrations this year due to the pandemic, so this book offers a way to still find the fun of Halloween and enjoy all the spookiness around the holiday。 。。。more

Son's Review(Age: 5) My favorite fact is gummy worms。What surprised you?The ghost sightings。Do you want to visit any of the places we learned about?I would want to visit the place where someone's basement* is haunted by the ghost of a cat because I would want to be cuddly with that ghost, and it's not as scary as other ghosts。*It is the US Capitol building。What should people expect? That it's not spooky。Mom's ReviewThe title spells it out pretty clearly: it is 300 Halloween-related facts。 But the Son's Review(Age: 5) My favorite fact is gummy worms。What surprised you?The ghost sightings。Do you want to visit any of the places we learned about?I would want to visit the place where someone's basement* is haunted by the ghost of a cat because I would want to be cuddly with that ghost, and it's not as scary as other ghosts。*It is the US Capitol building。What should people expect? That it's not spooky。Mom's ReviewThe title spells it out pretty clearly: it is 300 Halloween-related facts。 But they won't scare you silly; they are appropriate for most ages。 From how quickly pumpkins grow to haunting legends to those cool Transformers costumes we all saw a few years ago, weird but true! Halloween covers a wide range of subjects。 Some are specifically about Halloween and others are remotely related, like the zombie snails who have been infected by parasites。 We have kept this out on our side table as part of our Halloween decorations, reading a few facts here and there, and we are all enjoying it。 weird but true! Halloween is putting us in the spooky mood big time! Illustrations and photographs accompany the facts。 T and I would have liked more photographs, but were able to find what we wanted to see online。 For example, we were curious about the artist who turned her parents' home into an 8-eyed monster。 It's eye-mazing! (I just crack myself up!) Here's a link for you to see the house on the Today website。 weird but true! Halloween includes a glossary。weird but true! Halloween is fun, fascinating, and an invitation to learn more about the holiday。 We don't really confine seasonal books to their seasons, but this is one that I plan to deliberately set out on the end table for Halloweens to come。 It's definitely one to look at if you are into Halloween!Note: A review copy was provided in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more
